Chinese Bilingual Outside Sales Associate

Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We’ve grown nearly 100 years now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as “Culinary Ambassador” promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Location: El Monte, CA

Hours: M-F: 8AM – 5PM

Essential Job Functions

• Meet the monthly and annual sales quota as designated by Sales Manager
• Visit customers and potential customers to provide support, information, and sell the Company’s products
• Coordinate with the accounting department to assure the collection of payment in a timely manner
• Produce/participate in trade shows/events as set by business objectives
• Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport
• Respond to and communicate with all customers in a timely manner
• Coordinate urgent deliveries with the customer to accommodate their needs
• Educate customers on how the products or services can benefit them
• Input and update orders within the Company database accordingly
• Maintain and safely navigate the Company vehicle as per the Company Vehicle Policy
• Participate in weekly sales meetings
• Attend semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend
• Attend Company events and functions outside of normal working hours
• Other duties as required from manager
• Obligation to answer to all management as requested

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel for a majority of the daily working hours, including long hour driving
• Ability to sit in a car for extended periods of time
• Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to use the phone for extended periods of time
• Working Conditions
• Noise Level: Normal to loud while in the office
• Location: Indoor in the office or at customer sites (restaurants, wholesalers, distributors, etc.), travelling

Other Requirements

• Business level English required – Read/write/speak/listen
• Business level Chinese required – Read/write/speak/listen: Native level Chinese preferred
• Business level Japanese preferred – Read/write/speak/listen
• To have and maintain a clean driving record
• Maintain a positive attitude
• Ability to work independently and as a team
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload
• Pass the Sake Adviser course within 1 year of employment
• High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree or above preferred
• 2+ years of relevant experience preferred

Knowledge and Skills

• Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
• Problem-solving skills
• Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes
