The Merchandise Assistant Section Manager – Deli will support the management of Marukai’s Deli merchandise section, ensuring optimal product selection, inventory levels, and high standards of quality and freshness. This role requires a strong understanding of deli products, customer preferences, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to maintain and grow this key product category.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely Department Manager and Section Manager to fulfill the Deli product development. Assist in the selection, pricing, and planning of deli products to ensure a diverse and high-quality assortment that meets customer demands.
- Actively communicate with store inventory and Inventory Division team for supporting and monitoring of stock levels, ensuring products are replenished on time, ensure the food quality and freshness, and minimize waste, especially in perishable items.
- Assistant the Department Manager and Section Manager, work closely with suppliers to ensure consistent product quality, timely deliveries, and competitive pricing.
- Monitor deli market trends, customer feedback, and competitor activities to keep Marukai’s deli offerings innovative and appealing.
- Collaborate with the marketing, sales, and operations teams to develop promotional campaigns, store displays, and initiatives to increase sales in the deli category.
- Ensure all deli products meet Marukai’s high standards for freshness, presentation, and food safety. Work with the quality control team to maintain these standards.
- Provide support to the Merchandise Section Manager in daily operations and staff supervision. Assist in training junior team members and promoting a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Assist in tracking sales performance, analyzing trends, and reporting on product performance to help optimize the deli product assortment.
- Address customer inquiries and ensure their satisfaction with deli offerings, providing suggestions or resolving any issues related to product quality or availability.
Requirements
Job Requirement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in merchandising, retail, or food service, with a focus on deli or perishable products.
- Strong knowledge of deli products, preparation, and presentation.
- Experience in vendor management, product assortment, and inventory control.
- Good understanding of food safety standards and quality control processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Passion for Japanese cuisine and culture, with a particular focus on deli.
- Japanese language skills are a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position.
- Occasional travel to supplier locations and Marukai stores.
