    All assignments that work directly with students must obtain an Educational Aide Permit from the Ohio Department of Education. Please note our substitute onboarding is now provided online through Public School Works.

    Note: Recently enacted legislation permits those who do not hold a post secondary degree to obtain a substitute license through June 30, 2025. Please email your HR representative for more information.

    Note: The required online courses listed below will need to be completed in Public School Works as part of the employment process. Your Public School Works “log in” information will be emailed to you within a few days of registering in eventbrite. While you are waiting for your user name and password, you can start working on your substitute employment application in Recruiting and Hiring .

    C-012 Substitute onboarding course (required at initial hire)
    C-008 ESC-COG Substitute Employee Handbook (annual course)
    M-026 Bloodborne Pathogens for School Employees (annual course)
    M-850 COVID-19 How to Protect Yourself and Others (new hires only)
    C-005 ESCCO Electronic Data Security. All active ESC-COG substitutes are assigned a sub.escco.org email address. This course deals with electronic data security awareness. (annual course)
    C-013 Introduction to PBIS – Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions
    M-257 Adult Sexual Misconduct
    M-950 AED USe – Training for Educational Service Center Employees
    M-548 Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporting – Ohio
    M-134 Ohio Ethical Use of Tests
    M-135 Ohio Ethics Law

    To complete the hiring process bring your official identification documents to our office for visual verification. You can also arrange an appointment to obtain your background checks at either of our office locations. Please go to our web site to schedule an appointment by going to the substitue page and click on “Background checks and finger printing”.

    Once your employment application has been received by our office an eForm packet, will be placed in your online application for you to complete. You will be attaching the following documents to the eForm packet.

    • ODE teaching or substitute license or Educational Aide Permit (as required, custodial & maintenance assignments only require background checks at this time)
    • BCI and FBI background checks results (completed within12 months of your employment application). You will need an appointment if you would like to schedule your background check at the ESC.     • photo copy of your driver’s license or state ID document
    • complete your tax withholding information (local,state, & federal) included in eForm
    • photo copy of social security information
    • direct deposit information
    • I-9 Department of Homeland Security employment verification. A link to set up an appointment to review your official documents is on our website.

    It may save you some time if you are able to have these documents available as you are completing your eForm packet.

    Once your employment application and eForm packet have been submitted, your materials will be reviewed and an email regarding your status will be sent.
