2. The role
Welfare Officers are the go-to support for students in residence, ensuring their well-being and creating a welcoming environment. You’ll be available when needed and provide top-tier welfare support in your assigned residence.
You’ll also help build a positive community, encouraging good behavior and respect for the property. Keeping an eye on conduct, you’ll report any issues to management and help maintain a great atmosphere.
Plus, you’ll play a role in students’ language development-motivating, engaging, and helping them make friends.
3. Key responsibilities
- Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of all students in our care
- Monitor and supervise the student residence ensuring the proper safety, conduct and wellbeing of residents.
- Manage students’ behavior at all relevant times, with a judicious awareness of the need to sanction or encourage as appropriate
- Chasing and finding students who are missing from the programme to maintain high safeguarding standards
- Supporting and caring for sick students in camp
- Carefully monitor the host institutions’ property, ensuring it is well looked after and any damage reported and investigated
- Prioritize the safety of students above all else, following our Safeguarding and Health and Safety Policy
- Be friendly and approachable whilst developing professional, positive relationships with students that help to enhance their overall experience
- Ensure any concerns, worries or questions students may have are dealt with sensitively
- Ensure any safeguarding concerns that come to your attention are dealt with sensitively, and information shared/escalated appropriately
- Ensure the accommodation is kept tidy
- Ensure the students go to bed and wake up at the appropriate times, accompanying them as necessary
- Assist in the arrival check-in / departure check-out procedures
- Assist with regular damage inspections
- Assist with running of activities and excursions where required
- Assist with any additional tasks as given by the camp management team
4. Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Excellent communication skills in Japanese. Fluent to native speaker
- Excellent time management skills
- Being flexible and adaptable to change
- Excellent team work skills
- Knowledge of the English language and ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask, prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines
- The ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
- A positive attitude to the use of authority and maintaining discipline
- High level of integrity
- Relate well to children and gain their trust and respect
- Able to empathize with the children
- Have experience working with Juniors in a care position
- The ability to continue having a positive attitude when facing adversity or difficult situations
Desirable:
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Safeguarding and Welfare experience with under 18s
- Experience with multiple departments and teams
- Experience in a summer school environment
- Safeguarding Level 1 and 2
- Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
6. Timetable
A dynamic role responsible for all aspects of the camp, including excursions, activities, and lessons. Welfare Officers follow a set rota to ensure smooth operations and an engaging experience for all participants.
7. Pre-Employment Checks
As our roles involve the pastoral care and safeguarding of junior students our employment offers are conditional upon satisfactory completion of the relevant nation’s statutory and regulatory pre-employment vetting procedures.
