Vine Connections, an award-winning wine, sake, and spirits importer, is seeking a Controller. This is a full-time, exempt position devoted to supporting the finance and accounting efforts of the company. This hands-on leadership role will be responsible in the day-to-day accounting operations and standards and the financial close and reporting process. Ensuring the delivery of timely, complete and accurate financial information that can be relied on by the organization to help drive ongoing financial decisions, including period project and analysis work.

Ideally this candidate is able to come into the Sausalito, CA HQ office 2-3x per week. The Controller’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the duties listed below:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and guidance of the outsourced CFO and owner, manages all aspects of the accounting and finance department, identifies gaps and controls in potential risk areas of accounting and finance by assessing and mitigating vulnerability and risk; and develops and executes a work plan to effectively address such issues.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  • Responsible for managing company financial data and ensuring data integrity accuracy, and timelines.
  • Able to create and present strategic presentations to leadership team that provide insight and guidance.
  • Responsible for cash flow management including but not limited to: weekly monitoring of incoming and approval of outgoing funds, monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Responsible for Business insurance administration.
  • Development of operational procedures and documentation of data flow.
  • Development of system controls to ensure data integrity and fraud prevention.
  • Account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Assist in special projects as necessary.
  • Produce comprehensive accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including month-end closing, analysis and account summary information.
  • Responsible for general ledger.
  • Fixed asset processing and reporting.
  • Review bank statements.
  • Auditing, research, and reconcile all discrepancies.
  • Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Management of two direct reports, as well as outsourced Payroll partner.
  • Supervise and review staff work quality.
  • Oversee AP, AR, and Billing functions.
  • Ensure proper inventory controls and accurate reflections of inventory movement in financial records.
  • Analyze company spend and identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
  • Assist management with important financial decisions.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures and workflows.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate must possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and at least 7+ years’ experience in a for-profit business with progressive experience in multiple accounting and finance roles. MBA preferred.
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Excel and pivot tables, macros a plus. SAP Business One experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting/finance principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with internal and external audits and streamlining accounting processes.
  • Experience leading and guiding multiple team members.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills, including project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Manufacturing and Resource Planning experience a plus.
  • High level of accuracy in daily work and other projects.
  • Ability to multitask and meet communicated schedules and deadlines.
  • Development and maintenance of policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to function as a team player and enjoy cross-department communication.
  • Strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Must have a valid US driver’s license and passport.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
