Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Houston Branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for accounting and finance-related tasks, as well as general administration duties to support the smooth operation of the branch office. This position will provide support for both the Energy Unit and the New Energy Department under the Power & Infrastructure Service Unit, working closely with team members across these business areas.
Currently, the Energy Unit does not engage in trading business but manages four subsidiary companies. The main responsibilities for the Energy Unit will include handling service fees, guarantee fees, and dividend transactions related to these subsidiaries, as well as handling service fees from the Tokyo headquarters.
The New Energy Department is currently developing supply chains for low-carbon energy sources, such as hydrogen, ammonia, renewable natural gas, sustainable aviation fuels, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). The main responsibilities of the department include handling service fees with related vendors and the Tokyo headquarters, budgeting and accounting management including for subsidiary company, as well as tax matters.

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt
Work 5 days per week, (at least 3 days at MAC Houston Branch, and other 2 days could be remote work, subject to change by MAC internal rule)
Reports To: General Managers and Managers of both Energy Unit and New Energy Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, payments, and collections.
- Full accounting support, including tax matters, for the subsidiary of New Energy Department.
- Review and report tax withholdings related to 1099 payments.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Perform general administrative duties such as office supply management, vendor coordination, facility maintenance, and outgoing mail/packages.
- Processing and settlement of expense reports and related activities.
- Act as a liaison between the Houston branch and headquarters in Japan or other offices as needed.
- Handle special projects and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Japanese language skills are a plus).
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Experience working in a multicultural or Japanese business environment is a plus.
