    Job Summary:

    Under direct supervision, the Admissions Representative plays an integral role in supporting the institutional goal of providing superlative on-site visitor experiences that create powerful emotional connections with our diverse guests. They work closely with other team members to welcome, orient, assist and thank all Aquarium guests and members. The Admissions Representative serves a variety of host and cashier roles throughout the aquarium, especially indoors and outdoors around entry and exit points. All work is performed in a highly dynamic environment – facilitating crowds on high-volume days and providing individual hospitality on low-volume days. Perform other duties as required.

    Core Activities:

    • Proactively greet guests and engage them in conversation, thank and monitor guests exiting and re-entering the Aquarium and Welcome, and check-in, orient, and escort groups through Hovden Way
    • Clearly communicate necessary information to assist guests with visit planning, answer questions, and promote aquarium programs/membership
    • Engage guests using hand-held models/live animal tubes, to both capture their attention and orient to the Aquarium spaces and exhibits
    • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of the Aquarium’s exhibits and programs, as well as common information related to the Monterey area
    • Effectively manage cue lines both outside the building and the auditorium while maintaining enthusiastic interactions with guests
    • Handle various ticket and membership transactions, and follow proper cash handling procedures in both the Main and Membership Entrances
    • Engage guests throughout the Aquarium via various Guest Experience Operations activities
    • Support guests, volunteers, and other staff with safe and efficient exit, check-in, and re-entry procedures during an Emergency Evacuation
    • Support other Operations Department workgroups, as well as other Guest Experience Departments (for example, assisting our Guest Support Service team with daily tasks)
    • Attend scheduled staff trainings and departmental meetings, as well as complete all required trainings assigned by Supervisors and/or MBA HR and Safety Departments
    • Assist with mentoring incoming staff

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

    • Experience in hospitality, customer service, and/or attractions industry
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
    • Experience working both independently and as a member of a team
    • Ability to sustain enthusiastic interactions with both guests and staff throughout each work shift
    • Experience working with diverse audiences
    • Ability to work indoors and out for the full duration of the scheduled shift
    • Ability/comfort proactively approaching guests
    • Ability to converse in another international language (Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Portuguese, etc)
    • Ability to work alongside Teen Conservation Leader (TCL) students
    • Available to work both weekdays and weekends, as well as holidays
    • Staff in On-Call positions are required to:
    • Provide a minimum of four shifts per month with at least two-weekend shifts and four holiday periods within the year from which your supervisor will use to schedule
      • Work a minimum of 1x per month from the days provided by you and scheduled by your supervisor
      • Adhere to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Attendance Policy and Service Standards, and the GE Image, Appearance, and Uniform Standards
    • Ability to demonstrate support for the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s mission
    • Ability to work within, and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Core Values

    Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Job Functions:

    Hourly Compensation Range Minimum:

    $22.00 USD per hour.

    Minimum USD hourly rate: 22.00
    Maximum USD hourly rate: 22.00
