Summary of the Position:
The Assistant Manager supports the Restaurant Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring high standards of service and quality, and managing staff in a busy sushi restaurant. This role involves supervising employees, handling customer inquiries and complaints, and assisting with administrative tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient restaurant operation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee front-of-house activities and overall sales, including cash management, staff scheduling, inventory management, and adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Assist the restaurant manager in managing daily restaurant operations to ensure smooth service and high customer satisfaction.
- Ensure the restaurant maintains high standards of cleanliness and organization.
- Assist in hiring, training, and supervising front house staff, including servers, cashier, and other team members.
- Provide guidance and support to staff, ensuring they adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address employee issues or conflicts.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ensure that customers receive exceptional service and address any issues promptly to maintain high satisfaction levels.
- Assist in managing restaurant finances, including budgeting, cost control, and cash handling.
- Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, and employee hours.
- Help with ordering supplies and managing vendor relationships.
- Monitor food quality and presentation to ensure it meets restaurant standards.
- Ensure that all health and safety regulations are followed in food preparation and handling.
- Assist in implementing marketing strategies and promotions to attract customers and increase sales.
- Collaborate on special events or seasonal menus to enhance the restaurant’s appeal.
- Other signed responsibilities.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or a related field preferred.
- 5+ experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a restaurant or food service environment in Hawaii is highly desirable. Experience in a sushi or Japanese restaurant is a plus.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, and familiar with Hawaii hourly employee basic compliance is a must.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Proficient in restaurant management skills and basic accounting practices.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Certificates & Licenses:
- Hawaii State Driver’s License
- Hawaii Food handler Certificate
Language Ability:
- Speak, Read and Write English fluently is must
- Japanese bilingual skill will be plus
