Summary:
The Associate Director-Utilities will be responsible for leading the operation of the utilities department including HVAC systems, water treatment and wastewater treatment systems at the site. This role will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements while maintaining safe operations and efficient use of resources. The Associate Director-Utilities has supervisory responsibilities over the Utilities team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all utility systems are operated safely and efficiently; monitor performance against established targets.
  • Responsible for managing the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Reverse Osmosis System, Boiler/Steam Plant, Chilled Water Plant, Air Compressors, Process Water Systems, Chemical Storage, Central Monitoring Station, Standby Emergency Diesel Generators and all associated piping, valves, and controls needed to support plant operations.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors as required for equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacement projects.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams for capital projects related to the Utility infrastructure.
  • Manage and optimize utility usage across the site.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve reliability of utility systems through proactive maintenance practices and condition monitoring techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of utility system operations and perform routine inspections of facilities and equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to develop plans for new utility installations or modifications to existing systems.
  • Work closely with the environmental health and safety officer to meet all applicable local, state, federal, and international regulations regarding utility systems.
  • Assist in development of annual budgets and monthly forecasts for utility expenses.
  • Support energy conservation efforts by identifying opportunities for reducing energy consumption.
  • Lead emergency situations activities when necessary, coordinating with other departments as appropriate.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical or chemical)
  • At least 7 years of experience in similar position
  • Experience supervising teams and elevating performance
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex technical processes
  • Experience working with large scale industrial utilities such as water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, reverse osmosis systems, chiller plants, boilers, steam generation, compressed air systems, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Process Safety Management, and FDA regulations

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Fully bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Engineering in Training or PE license, preferred
  • Potable and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) license, preferred
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience, preferred
  • Strong compliance mindset and sound judgement
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to build partnerships and collaborate with internal and external customers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire others
  • Availability to support a 24/7 operation (provide call in assistance if necessary)

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$108,000 – $158,400

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
