The Trade and Supply Chain Department (CTS) is one of the industry groups at IFC, with both investment and advisory services delivered to IFC’s clients through IFC’s global network. IFC’s priorities in Trade are: (i) grow investment and advisory solutions in all regions it operates in, while achieving strong profitability and development impact (ii) build new and nurture existing client relationships to make IFC the preferred partner for key clients (iii) manage portfolio of assets for strong profitability and impact; (iv) support local companies, while improving transparency and corporate governance; (v) catalyze foreign investment, including mobilizing B loans, parallel loans, and other forms of capital mobilization; (vi) introduce and develop new financial solutions, products and platforms; (vii) build long-term partnerships with strong regional players; (viii) develop client, sector and country-level solutions through interventions that can be scaled and replicated; and (ix) be a thought leader and innovator of products and client solutions globally.
Global trade is an engine of growth that creates jobs, reduces poverty, and increases economic opportunities. It is a key driver of integration and opportunities for local enterprises in emerging markets and developing countries. Financing trade is fundamental to the movement of goods at all stages of the supply chain and can have a strong development impact in developing countries. IFC’s trade and supply chain finance programs offer guarantees, risk-sharing facilities, loans, and other structured products to support trade in emerging markets. Through these various products, IFC has supported financial institutions, buyers/importers, and suppliers/exporters in more than 100 countries across all regions of the globe. To date, IFC’s Trade and Supply Chain Finance Department has supported over US$250 billion in global trade.
CTS is looking for an (Associate) Investment Officer who is responsible for growing IFC’s trade and supply chain finance programs including the Global Trade Liquidity Program (GTLP). S/he will be responsible for developing trade finance solutions that support the financial inclusion of SMEs and create jobs in emerging markets. The (Associate) Investment Officer will report to the Global Manager, Products, CTSPD and will be based in Washington DC.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The (Associate) Investment Officer is expected to:
• Contribute to the development and processing of trade and supply chain finance projects under the Global Trade Liquidity Program (GTLP) and other trade and supply chain finance programs with high additionality and development impact.
• Identify bankable trade and supply chain finance projects and solutions, particularly in IDA/FCS countries, by working collaboratively with regional colleagues across IFC, and by building relationships with global and regional banks, and other financial institutions.
• Support the structuring of trade and supply chain finance projects, ensuring thorough due diligence and timely processing.
• Take a key role in monitoring the performance of trade finance portfolio transactions and stay informed of emerging changes in the markets.
• Help design new initiatives including crisis response and contribute to the private capital mobilization efforts.
• Support all other tasks requested by the Product Lead to support the GTLP Team and other trade and supply chain finance programs.
Selection Criteria
• Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in trade and supply chain finance or treasury with a local/international commercial bank/other financial institution or international organization;
• A minimum of Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance or business;
• Ability to make sound business judgement based on solid understanding of the World Bank Group and IFC policies;
• Experience managing teams successfully and ability to lead for results and impact;
• Ability to develop innovative solutions and to challenge the status quo and build new product lines;
• Demonstrated investment track record in sourcing, structuring and managing trade and supply chain finance transactions;
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills; and
• Highest standards of ethical integrity, transparency and fairness.
