We are looking for a new Associate Legal Counsel to join our FANUC America Legal team at our Headquarters location in Rochester Hills, MI. In this role, you will collaborate with other members and partners within the Legal Department while executing any legal work required by FANUC America and its subsidiaries (FAC). In addition, you will counsel, advise, and support our business units toward achieving our business objectives while anticipating and guarding against legal risks that we may face. Interested? Primary responsibilities will include

  • Advise and practice law in all areas that FAC may face, including:
    • Commercial: Review, negotiate, draft and modify corporate agreements as necessary, including confidentiality agreements, terms and conditions of sale or purchase, facility leases, software license agreements, integrator agreements, bailment and evaluation agreements, etc.
    • Corporate: Research legal issues and advise on various corporate matters, including employment issues, corporate governance and compliance, OSHA regulations, immigration issues, intellectual property, international trade, antitrust, data protection, etc.
    • Litigation: Manage various litigation matters, including directing litigation and settlement strategy that best protects FAC
    • Collection: Provide legal support for Legal/Finance collection remedies and creditor’s rights, and prepare security agreements, promissory notes, and other measures as necessary to support FAC’s credit policy, as well as manage bankruptcy caseload
    • Regulatory: Keep informed of relevant regulations and laws and ensure compliance
  • Counsel major functions within FANUC America’s business, including, executing groups, segments, and other corporate support groups
  • Collaborate with FAC’s compliance team to promote an environment in which FAC’s Code of Business Conduct and related policies and procedures can thrive
  • Interface with FANUC’s global affiliates to advance and support FANUC’s global initiatives and business objectives
  • Consult and direct outside legal counsel, and other corporate consultants, including insurance brokers, insurance companies, safety consultants, technical experts, etc.
  • Prepare and present training on legal-related issues and policies
  • Research, draft, and enforce legal-related corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Consult current best practices for in-house legal departments, including legal operations and technology that may make our department more efficient and effective
  • Manage cross-functional projects designed to address legal issues both reactively and proactively
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential legal issues and other risks for FAC, and develop strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk

Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school, with a record of strong academic performance
  • 3+ years of experience as a licensed, practicing attorney
  • Active member of the State Bar of Michigan and licensed to practice law within the State of Michigan
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in commercial transactions, contract drafting/review and/or litigation
  • Working experience within an outside law firm or in-house corporate position
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Japanese
  • Experience with legal operations technology
