Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Design Engineer – Routing to join our engineering team. This position will work primarily at a customer facility in Saline, Michigan and will be responsible for routing wire harnesses using customer-specified CAD systems. The role involves close collaboration with customers and internal engineering teams throughout the product development process.

Key Responsibilities

• Create wire harness layouts and components in a 3D CAD environment and package them into vehicles
• Ensure designs meet customer specifications and internal engineering requirements
• Generate 2D drawings from 3D wire harness CAD data
• Provide engineering information to support tooling, evaluation, prototyping, and manufacturing
• Improve wire harness design quality through design reviews, workability improvements, and VA/VE activities
• Develop engineering solutions to address customer and internal design issues
• Support customer cost studies with timely technical responses
• Assist with vehicle builds and launch activities at customer plants
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives with the engineering team
• Benchmark competitive vehicles and share design trends internally
• Support domestic and international business travel (Mexico, Canada, Vietnam, and Japan) as required
• Work overtime when necessary to meet project deadlines
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Ability to troubleshoot and rework wire harnesses on assembled vehicles
• Experience using 3D CAD systems (CATIA preferred)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• CATIA experience
• Japanese language ability
• Toyota design experience

Education and Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of wire harness routing engineering design experience
• Minimum of 3 years of 3D CAD experience
