Director of Architecture & Engineering Services – Pacific Programs
Location: Opportunity to work remotely with frequent travel throughout Indo-Pacific Region.

Exp Federal, a full-service Architecture & Engineering and Design-Build firm headquartered in Chicago, IL is seeking a Director of A&E Services for our growing design practice for our Pacific Programs reporting to the Vice President of Architecture and Engineering. This position will work alongside the Director of Infrastructure & Specialty Consulting and co-manage the Project Managers and Team Leads. The selected candidate may be in Japan, Korea, California, Hawaii, or within the Western US or Pacific region. Frequent travel throughout Japan and Korea and Indo-Pacific Region is required. The Director will focus on the business development of Architectural and Engineering projects to be delivered by our Project Managers and professional and technical innovators across multiple disciplines. You will participate in the talent identification and hiring of project staff and through mentoring foster a collaborative environment across the wider exp Federal design studios.

Principle Areas of Responsibility:

  • Responsible for the regional business development strategy
  • Identify and respond to new business opportunities in the Indo- Pacific Region
  • Foster relationships with the US DoD, the US federal government, and other entities relevant to the support of our government clients
  • Prepare statement of qualifications, proposals, solicitations to subcontractors, teaming agreements, and project scopes to meet the potential needs of US Government agencies.
  • Communicate effectively to all project stakeholders while building trust across a diverse project team
  • Forecast staffing and budget requirements
  • Responsible for performance management of staff, collaborating with Human Resources to source, hire, mentor, and develop talent for the Japan Office, Korea Office and future branch offices in the Pacific Region
  • Assist SVP Business Operations and COO in the creation and staffng of branch offices potentially in Southern California, Buam, and other locations in the Indo-Pacific region to support growth of company and ability to better serve clients with local assets
  • Conduct frequent travel throughout the Pacific region. Expected frequency and duration is estimated to be approximately one week per month visiting clients, potential clients, exp Federal staff members, existing partners, and teaming partners.
  • Serve as Program Manager in accordance with Joint Venture Operating Agreements
  • Supervise multidisciplinary teams of project managers, technical discipline specialists, and subcontractors
  • Monitor project performance, including quality, schedule, financials, resources, and client satisfaction
  • Serve as Project Manager for a limited number of projects
  • Work in a dynamic environment where change and complexity are the norms
  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President of Business Development to maintain consistency and share best practices
  • Collaborate with project leads to identify lessons learned and translate them to increased win probability on future solicitations
  • Maintain project outcomes and staff capabilities information to enhance success on bids for new business

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university plus 12+ years of full-time work experience
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in business development activities in AE/construction Design-Build contracts outside the USA
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience researching and growing new markets
  • Familiarity with Japanese and/or Korean practices and policies
  • Strong professional connections in Japan, Korea, and the U.S. government.
  • Financial analytic skills, including developing budgets and effectively allocating resources.
  • Japanese and/or Korean language skills
