Overview
The Director of International Education provides strategic leadership for expanding and enriching global learning opportunities and engagement across Everett Community College. This position is responsible for the development and oversight of a wide array of programs designed to deepen understanding of international cultures, enhance communication, and advance the College’s commitment to equitable and transformative global learning experiences. This position supports international students through collaborative partnerships with departments and programs throughout the College while ensuring the College’s compliance with federal regulations related to international students.

Duties & Responsibilities
Program Administration

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for global engagement programs, ensuring alignment with the College’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Manage program operations, including budgeting, contract negotiation, and partnership agreements, to support sustainable and effective global engagement activities.
  • Lead the development and coordination of global engagement programs, including student and faculty study abroad, international exchanges, and faculty-led projects
  • Oversee the development and implementation of marketing and outreach strategies to promote global engagement programs, ensuring messaging is inclusive and accessible.
  • Develop and maintain the Global Engagement and Study Abroad websites and communication platforms, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and reflective of institutional values.
  • Collaborate with campus programs and departments, including the Japanese Cultural Resource Center, to expand intercultural programming and global engagement initiatives.
  • Promote equitable access, intercultural learning, and global engagement across programs and the campus community through partnerships with departments and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff on global engagement, international student support, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of global engagement activities, using data to inform program improvement and demonstrate outcomes related to global learning and equity.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies related to international students and study abroad services, including risk management and safety protocols.

Global Engagement Student Services

  • Recruit, advise, and prepare students for global engagement programs, ensuring they are equipped for ethical international experiences.
  • Provide guidance and support to international students enrolling at EvCC, collaborating with departments such as Enrollment Services, Admissions, Finance, Housing, and Student Life.
  • Develop and facilitate orientation programs for international students that address cultural adjustment, academic success, and effective use of campus resources.
  • Coordinate pre-departure and re-entry programming for global engagement participants, emphasizing intercultural competence, identity, and global citizenship.
  • Develop and expand domestic and international partnerships with universities, organizations, and agencies to increase global learning opportunities for students.

Principal Designated School Official (PDSO)

  • Serve as the college’s Principal Designated School Official (PDSO), ensuring compliance with all Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) regulations for F-1 and M-1 students.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), SEVP, and other relevant agencies regarding campus certification and international student matters.
  • Manage Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) functions, including issuing Form I-20, maintaining accurate records, and fulfilling all federal reporting requirements.
  • Advise international students on maintaining nonimmigrant status, including guidance on employment, program changes, travel, and related regulatory obligations.
  • Perform PDSO-only functions in SEVIS, including updating the college’s Designated School Official (DSO) roster, responding to system alerts, and submitting for campus recertification.
  • Develop and implement institutional procedures to support consistent SEVP compliance, including documentation, reporting practices, and audit readiness.
  • Provide training and updates to College staff on SEVP regulations, system processes, and best practices in international student support.

General Duties

  • Represent Everett Community College at conferences and events to strengthen the college’s global profile and build strategic partnerships.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff, fostering a culture of professional development, collaboration, and commitment to equity and social justice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and advance institutional initiatives.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as international relations, global studies, or cultural anthropology (or equivalent experience).
  • Two years of experience in study abroad, international programs, or related programs.
  • One year of supervisory experience involving staff supervision and budget management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal regulations and policies related to international students, travel, and study
  • abroad programming.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and assess strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in program development and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and cross-cultural contexts.
  • Commitment to advancing equity, intercultural understanding, and global engagement.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience using SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System).
  • Experience with CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems.
  • Proficiency in more than one language.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, twelve (12) months per year.
  • FLSA Exempt employee with a year-to-year contract.
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Performance will be evaluated annually.
