    The Role:

    We are looking for an experienced Director of Toxicology with scientific creativity and curiosity to join our team and help advance our pipeline of innovative molecular gate medicines. The ideal candidate will be enthused by the opportunity to develop drugs with a new mechanism and motivated by having profound patient impact. You will have good judgement from deep industry experience, but also be pragmatic and creative to move programs forward at the frontier of a nimble biotech company. You will be a self-starter and possess the eagerness to roll up their sleeves to provide hands-on toxicology and safety support, working closely and collaborating with project teams and alongside our exceptional drug developers. This role reports to the Vice President of Nonclinical Development.

    In this role you will:

    • Design protocols, oversee execution, and evaluate toxicology studies for molecular gate drug discovery programs
    • Interpret and present data to company scientific leadership
    • Provide strategic and operational direction ensuring that toxicology studies are conducted in line with the appropriate guidelines and regulatory test standards (FDA, WHO, GLP, and ISO)
    • Ensure that all safety testing plans, registration activities, government submissions, and design control activities are addressed in accordance with Research and Development requirements
    • Own in-life resource planning, maintaining current testing procedures, program development, performance monitoring, budget planning and resource management

    Education and Experience:

    • 15+ years of work experience in a research and/or development environment
    • PhD or DVM degree in a scientific discipline or BA/BS or MA/MS with appropriate work experience required
    • Board certified by the American Board of Toxicology (ABT) and/or American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), European College of Veterinary Pathology (ECVP) or Japanese College of Veterinary Pathology (JCVP) strongly preferred.
    • Understanding of GLP, ICH and FDA guidance, and other relevant regulations and guidelines
    • Demonstrated scientific judgement, having worked on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables, including pragmatism and creativity in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
    • Demonstrated success as an individual contributor in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaborations with others and independent thought
    • Possess advanced knowledge of scientific principles and concepts
    • Track record of consistent successful completion or resolution of major projects, and self-motivation & ability to work with limited supervision

    Compensation:

    Individual compensation is based on various factors, including level, experience, education, skill set, and geographic location. This salary range is for our San Francisco Bay Area, location and may be adjusted to the labor market in other geographic areas.

    Target Salary Range: $190,000 – $250,000
