Job Summary:

Rakuten is looking for a strategic and execution-focused Director of Product Management to own and evolve our member experience across platforms. This is a high-impact leadership role sitting at the intersection of consumer product, data-driven personalization, B2B product development, and go-to-market strategy. You will define how tens of millions of members engage with Rakuten – on platform and off – and build the next generation of products that serve both members and business partners.

You will manage a small, high-caliber team and work cross-functionally with Digital Strategy, Commercial, and GTM teams to drive outcomes at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

Member Experience & Platform Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end member experience strategy across Rakuten’s platform touchpoints, ensuring a cohesive, personalized, and high-value journey for members.
  • Continuously evolve the experience by synthesizing on-platform behavioral signals (clicks, purchases, engagement) and off-platform signals (email, notifications, partner data) to surface relevant, timely content and offers.
  • Lead the evolution of Rakuten’s suite of targeted products, operating across three tiers: individual member personalization, platform-level optimization, and product-level feature development.
  • Define product positioning, capabilities, and roadmaps for new B2B offerings that strengthen Rakuten’s value proposition to member and retail partners.

Cross-functional Partnership

  • Partner with data science and engineering to build intelligent targeting and recommendation systems that drive member engagement and monetization.
  • Partner with Commercial teams to conduct market research and identify opportunities to expand Rakuten’s suite of B2B products and merchant-facing capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Digital Strategy team to define and evolve the user content experience – including content discovery, and dynamic content delivery.
  • Work hand-in-hand with GTM teams to bring new products and features to market, including defining launch strategy, messaging, and success criteria.
  • Establish clear success metrics and feedback loops to iteratively improve targeting accuracy and relevance.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of 2-3 Product Managers, setting a high bar for product thinking, execution, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Build a culture of curiosity, rigor, and member-centricity within the team.
  • Develop team members’ skills and careers through active coaching and clear growth frameworks.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The

requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable

accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Proven track record of owning consumer-facing product roadmaps at scale, ideally in e-commerce, loyalty, marketplace, or fintech.
  • Strong data fluency – comfortable with on/off-platform analytics, A/B testing, and using signals to drive product decisions.
  • Experience working on personalization, targeting, or recommendation products is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally across strategy, commercial, and marketing/GTM teams.
  • Experience with B2B product development or merchant/partner-facing products is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication skills – you can translate complex product strategy into crisp narratives for executives and partners alike.
  • A bias for action balanced with thoughtful, structured thinking.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years in a people management role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
