Substantive Editor for Nonfiction Book on Japan

I am seeking a Substantive Editor to assist with editing a nonfiction book/memoir about Japan. The manuscript is currently 233 pages (including references) with a word count of roughly 92,000 words.

I am looking for someone who can assist with strengthening the structure, flow, clarity, and logic within the book while also looking for any gaps or problems found within.

Responsibilities include
– Look over manuscript’s structure and recommend improvements to organization, pacing, and flow.
– Identify problematic sections, missing context, or clarity issues.
– Suggest rewrites of sentences or paragraphs if needed.
– Provide strong feedback on edits needed, including reasoning for major changes.
– Write notes throughout the manuscript to ask for clarity and clear up misunderstandings.
– Give advice on the placement and relevance of photos to enhance clarity, pacing, and reader satisfaction.
– Ensure the manuscript maintains a consistent tone and is accessible to the audience.
– Comfortable working collaboratively.

$4000 guaranteed paid in 4 installments with commission available (negotiable).

Timeline is not currently set. Able to be flexible with demanding schedules. Needing to book months in advance for your schedule is ok.
