What You’ll Do…
As an entry-level Engineering Technician, you will support inspections of military family housing facilities on Okinawa, Japan-including Kadena Air Base, Camp Foster, Camp Courtney, Camp Kinser, and other sites. In this developmental role, you will work alongside senior technicians to learn inspection procedures, contribute to facility assessments, and help ensure that residential facilities meet safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes
- Safe and Habitable Facilities – Support assessments of structural conditions, including concrete spalling or cracking in residential dwellings, to help determine whether facilities are safe for occupancy.
- Accurate Documentation – Assist in preparing reports summarizing facility condition data to support maintenance, renovation, or continued use decisions.
- Compliance with Standards– Follow applicable codes, standards, and regulations under the guidance of senior staff including:
- International Residential Code (IRC)
- Nation Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
- Occupations Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
- USAF Civil Engineering Policies and Standards
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Guidelines
- Japanese Environmental Governing Standards (JEGS)
- American Concrete Institute (ACI)
- Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS)
- Apply Practical Learning – Apply technical skills in real-world scenarios while building proficiency in inspection tools, reporting, and facility evaluation.
- Team Contribution – Collaborate with senior technicians and engineers to implement inspection best practices and ensure consistent, high-quality results.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in engineering or construction, including direct involvement in building inspections or facility condition assessments
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Building Inspector
- Exposure to or experience with inspections on military facilities; familiarity with the DoD BUILDER SMS system
Work Environment
Work will be performed on-site at U.S. military facilities in Okinawa, Japan. This is an OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) assignment that may involve working in a variety of residential and operational environments. The role requires regular physical activity, including climbing, walking across uneven surfaces, and accessing rooftops or confined spaces. Candidates should be comfortable living and working overseas, adapting to cultural differences, and complying with host nation requirements as well as U.S. government standards.
