Department Summary

The Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities in the UCLA Department of Asian Languages & Cultures was established in 2014 to realize a sustainable, equitable, globally interconnected future for the Japanese humanities. Its activities include the advancement of scholarship on Japanese literature and the arts; support for literary translation; public programs on performance, film, design, music, art, food, and architecture; and the creation of digital educational content.
Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the Associate Director, the Fund Manager provides analysis and budgetary administration for the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities in the UCLA Department of Asian Languages & Cultures (ALC), a program with an endowment of $55 million with an annual operating budget of over $2.5 million in endowment income, contracts and grants, and sales and service funds. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring budgets, approving and processing purchasing-related transactions, completing financial reports, and supporting preparation of fiscal close in coordination with the ALC senior fund manager and CAO. This position provides a variety of professional support services including, but not limited to, fund management and ledger reconciliation, financial reporting and budget analysis, preparation and reporting of contracts and grants budgets, preparation of international agreements, processing of visiting graduate researcher (VGR) appointments and visa applications, and use of all pertinent databases.

Qualifications

1-2 years University Fund Management Experience (Preferred)

Detailed knowledge of University Accounting procedures and policies relating to purchasing, travel, and general accounting practices. (Required)

Skill in the use of standard office software packages, MS Word, MS Excel, and ability to perform internet searches. (Required)

Detailed knowledge of University fiscal closing policies and procedures. (Preferred)

Knowledge of UCLA Web-based systems including BruinBuy Plus, Online Financial Systems Reports (OFSR), MTF, Transfer of Funds (TOF), NPEARS, Travel Express, Transact, GoGrad, MyBruin International, and EPASS. (Required)

Demonstrated skill and knowledge of financial management principles, budget preparation, and budget analysis techniques employed at UCLA. (Required)

Ability to work accurately with detail while juggling multiple priorities under minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to be punctual with all work-related items. (Required)

Ability to work and communicate with faculty, visitors, students, department staff and staff from other departments in a diplomatic manner. (Required)

Ability to perform accounting tasks independently, accepting challenging circumstances and taking initiative to solve problems where solutions are not always readily apparent. (Required)

Knowledge of visiting graduate researcher appointment procedures. (Preferred)

Demonstrated skill in analyzing financial data to draw appropriate conclusions, recommend solutions, and communicate results orally and in writing. (Required)

Knowledge of international student and scholar visa requirements and processing. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor’s Degree in related area or equivalent experience / training. (Required)
