Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Coordinate and implement online and in-person outreach activities (lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences) under the supervision of the Center’s Director.
2. Assist and accommodate local and international visitors to the Center.
3. Oversee and edit zoom recordings for online events; oversee and edit photographs and videos of in-person events; upload and maintain videos and photographs online.
4. Maintain and update websites and social media for the Center for Okinawan Studies; collaborate with other centers as necessary (especially the Center for Japanese Studies); assess engagement analytics and assist in search engine optimization technology measures.
5. Produce PR and communications materials and reports; and posting news and updates on the Center’s website regularly.
6. Collect, organize, and report data regarding the Center for Okinawan Studies at UH Manoa for internal materials, government reports, and grant applications.
7. Answer and monitor Center’s communications (i.e. email accounts) and archive data (newsletters, reports, etc.) and projects.
8. Participate in online and in-person staff meetings.
9. Other duties as related to the Center’s projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Full-time classified graduate student enrolled in an UHM graduate degree program.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with work in Okinawan Studies, Japanese Studies, or Japan-related subjects.
- Experience coordinating outreach activities such as public lectures, conferences, workshops, and other public events.
- Experience preparing event flyers and other announcements.
- Experience photographing, documenting, and reporting on programs and events.
- Competency working with Zoom webinars for large groups.
- Competency in PowerPoint and other presentation software (e.g., Google slides)
- Competency in web design and maintenance using WordPress.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Native or near native fluency in Japanese and English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (including emails).
- Video, photographs, and sound editing skills.
- Basic data analysis and visualization skills.
- Experience in writing for and editing a newsletter (e.g. via Mailchimp).
- Experience using social media, such as Twitter and Instagram, for effectively documenting projects.
- Competency with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
