Job Description

The Department of World Languages & Cultures at Weber State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Instructor of Japanese, with the possibility of annual renewal, subject to program needs, availability of funds, and satisfactory performance of duties. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

Job Duties

Duties:

  • This instructor will teach at least 12-credit hours per semester of Japanese language courses at all levels, with the possibility of additional teaching appointments in summer for additional pay. The instructor is also expected to assist in curriculum development in the Japanese language program, as well as in recruitment and retention efforts. Duties also involve working in close collaboration with other instructors teaching Japanese classes. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others (90%);
  • Engage in service to the department, college, and university as expected of all faculty members (10%);
  • Such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications

    Requirements:

  • (Education) Master’s degree in Japanese Linguistics or related field. Degree must be conferred by the first day of appointment.
  • (Experience) At least 2 years of teaching experience at the college level.
  • (Other Skills/Requirements) Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English.
