Description
Tokyo Central is excited to announce our new Irvine location opening mid 2025. We are hiring leads now, with training to take place at one of our other SoCal locations until the new store is ready to be occupied.
The lifestyle department lead must have supervisory experience in a retail environment. Experience with ordering product and creating displays a must. Strong computer and communication skills required. Familiarity with Japanese toys, housewares, makeup, etc. required. Bilingual in Japanese a plus but not necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):
• Assists the Store Manager with all Lifestyle Department responsibilities.
• Oversee all Lifestyle Department responsibilities including, but not limited to, customer service, management, ordering, receiving of products, scheduling, and paperwork.
• Under the direction of the Store Manager, they are responsible for in-service training for all Lifestyle department employees, including training and documentation. Training might cover proper organic standard procedures as they understand the merchandises, displaying and storing lifestyle products.
• Assist the Store Manager with maintaining the appropriate profit margins in accordance with the approved preset budget for the Lifestyle department. This entails but is not limited to: sales goals for the Lifestyle department, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and waste management.
• Help manage costs by controlling shrink and theft.
• Responsible for maintaining food safety standards throughout the department, by following proper receiving, tracking the expire date, stock the product with merchandise quality requirements, pricing, signage, displaying, and rotation of a complete variety of items.
• Lead a team that brainstorms to deliver the finest quality of product, highest level of service, and the greatest experience our customers will receive.
• Collaborate with Merchandise department and store management team to create unique and seasonal offerings or promotions.
• Create work schedule for Lifestyle department and strictly follow company and legal requirements about rest break and meal break.
• Fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
• Helps manage costs by controlling shrink and theft.
• Consistently checks the display cases to ensure the products are clean, neat, organized, visible, plentiful, well-stocked, and properly rotated.
• Handles customer complaints in such a manner to assure customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrate advanced product knowledge; maintain awareness of new products and regularly incorporate new products into the overall product mix.
• Assists Store Manager and EHS team with safety meetings or trainings and assures that all the team members fall within accordance to Cal OSHA’s requirements.
• Supporting store management team to documents all department meetings and obtains employee’s signatures.
• Follow the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance.
• At all times, meets and exceeds Tokyo Central store standards in service, quality, and cleanliness.
Requirements
Basic Requirements
• Be able to adapt to different store environments during the training period. You might be signed up to different stores within Tokyo Central stores.
• Be able to demonstrate small team management abilities. Team sizes can be from 0~ 10 employees. Management skills are required for the Lifestyle department lead and assistant department lead positions. The overall direction, coordination, and evaluation will be reviewed. Management activities include but are not limited to: Interviewing; Training Employees; Planning, Assigning, and Directing Work; Addressing Complaints and Resolving Problems with employees and customers.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a non-food section supervisor in a middle to large scale high-end market. Current Tokyo Central Lifestyle department leader/assistant department lead are welcome to apply.
• Strong knowledge of Non-food section team procedures and policies. A thorough understanding of different types of produce and quality knowledge which ensuring proper inventory management to reduce expired products waste.
• Ability to read and interpret English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to use English to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak English effectively before groups such as our customers and/or employees. The ability to speak Japanese and/or Spanish is not required but can be a huge plus.
• Basic mathematical skills are required. This includes, but not limited to, the ability to calculate figures and amounts. Also, to add, subtract, divide, and multiply using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals are necessary.
• General reasoning ability is required. This position needs the leader to be able to interpret a variety of instructions that can be in the form of written, oral, in diagram, or scheduled forms. They need to have the ability to resolve conflicts in such a manner as to create a win-win situation. And they need to have the ability to analyze a variety of situations and to think things through to create a solution and to implement that said solution.
