Job Description

CAT II or CAT III JAPANESE linguist support services for U.S. Forces in the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) area of responsibility (AOR) working with multinational forces. Will need to transcribe, translate, and interpret information gathered from a variety of sources to meet ongoing, new, or changing mission and operational requirements. Must understand military terminology specific to the USINDOPACOM AOR.
- 3+ years previous translation/interpretation/linguist experience required.
- Familiar with Japanese customs and traditions.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting high-level military and government personnel in variety of settings (i.e., meetings, conferences, exercises, etc.).
- Proficient in providing simultaneous and consecutive interpretation.
- Must be ready, willing and able to change day-to-day work/tasks as the mission requirements at the assigned location may be fluid with lots of movement and change.
- Typing ability, basic computer skills, use of Windows, MS Word and MS Excel.
- Ability to function effectively and efficiently during periods of high pressure and stress.
- Read, write, listen and speak with clear and concise grammar and pronunciation in the required foreign language(s) and English. Provide idiomatic (particular language or dialect) translations of material using correct structure of sentences in the required foreign language and English. Conduct consecutive, accurate translations and interpretations of on-going conversations and activities. Position may include, but is not limited to:
- Position requires all employees to be available to work any hours and any days depending on mission requirements.
- May travel periodically and could be required to work/live outside and inside depending on mission requirement.
