Job Description
This role provides onsite Japanese ↔ English consecutive interpretation and written translation for the Electrode Production organization during night-shift operations. You will serve as the primary communication bridge between Japanese leadership and local production teams, supporting technical discussions, shift handovers, real-time operational needs, and documentation translation within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

  • Perform consecutive Japanese to English and English to Japanese interpretation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Facilitate cross-cultural communication between Japanese nationals and U.S. production staff.
  • Support both technical and non-technical discussions related to production operations.
  • Interpret 1:1 and group meetings, shift handovers, and production discussions.
  • Support real-time communication on the production floor during night shift.
  • Translate written materials such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, schedules, and internal communications.
  • Quickly learn and apply department-specific manufacturing terminology.
  • Maintain professionalism, neutrality, and cultural awareness in all interactions.

Essential Skills

  • Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English at a professional level.
  • Consecutive interpretation experience in an onsite setting.
  • Exposure to manufacturing or production environments.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical terminology quickly.
  • Cross-cultural communication skills and professional neutrality.
  • Comfort with interpreting for groups.
  • Basic computer and digital communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Document translation experience.
  • Exposure to CAT tools such as Trados or MemoQ.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Toyota Production System (TPS).
  • Experience supporting Japanese nationals onsite.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, English, linguistics, education, engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Professional-level Japanese to English proficiency with consecutive interpretation experience.
  • 1-2+ years of professional interpreting experience.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, production, engineering, or technical environments.
  • Experience translating technical documentation.

Work Environment
The role involves working night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, covering 40 hours per week. The position requires direct support of Electrode Production operations in a fast-paced, operational, and safety-driven manufacturing environment. The candidate should be reliable, punctual, and comfortable working overnight shifts. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools is beneficial.

This is a Contract position based out of Sparks, NV.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 – $33.00/hr.
