Position Summary
Rakuten Medical is seeking a highly motivated and driven research technician who will be key in supporting our preclinical scientific activities. The role will primarily involve animal care and handling, per animal welfare guidelines, as well as vivarium maintenance activities. The position has flexible hours and will require approximately 10 hours/week. The position is part-time with potential to evolve into a fulltime position, if needed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide care to lab animals housed in ventilated racks
- Receive animals from suppliers per current SOP
- Feed and water animals according to SOP
- Monitor cage changing schedules
- Observe and report changes in animal health status and/or condition of the animals
- Maintain vivarium equipment such as filter changing in ventilated racks and animal transfer cabinets
- Perform general vivarium duties and maintain cleaning logs
- Monitor inventory and communicate to other team members when supplies are low
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Education, Skills and Experience
- High school or above
- AALAS certification preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Exceptional self-management ability
- Previous experience with the care of laboratory rodents
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures for animal facilities
- Knowledge of the basic requirements for maintaining laboratory animals and general record keeping
- Must be able to lift 50lbs and be able to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work in a lab environment using personal protective equipment
- Ability to work individually or as a team, with minimal supervision
- Ability to work weekends and holidays, as needed
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule

The expected salary range for this position based in California is $18/hr.
