Engineering Specialist – Controls

  1. General Summary: Utilize the Toyota Production System and engineering skills to perform production engineering functions for production processes. Develops, coordinates, and implements manufacturing processes, procedures, and techniques including process improvement activities to improve overall efficiency, product quality, productivity, and profitability in accordance with company and customer requirements.
  2. Essential Job Functions:
  1. Troubleshoot electrical or programming issues related to HMIs, robotics, vision systems, motors, etc.
  2. Develop electrical and programming standards used for new equipment development.
  3. Design, implement, maintain, or improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, or systems for manufacturing purposes.
  4. Direct or coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements.
  5. Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  6. Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
  7. Test electronic units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
  8. Assemble, test, or maintain circuitry or electronic components, according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools.
  9. Review electrical engineering plans to ensure adherence to design specifications and compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.
  10. Calculate design specifications or cost, material, and resource estimates, and prepare project schedules and budgets.
  11. Compile and maintain records documenting engineering schematics, installed equipment, installation or operational problems, resources used, repairs, or corrective action performed.
  12. Work with machine vendors to follow the developed electrical and programming standards.
  13. Work on the production floor to improve manufacturing processes and eliminate machine downtime.
  14. Leverage deep understanding of PLC, HMI, and robot programs for new equipment launch and maintenance.
  15. Work directly with PE, VP, and equipment improvement projects, new equipment installations, equipment and process upgrades and cycle time improvements, research and development of new processes and new product launches.
  16. Inspect electrical systems for quality control and assurance.
  17. Identify solutions to on-site technical design problems involving electrical systems equipment.
  18. Collaborate with electrical engineers or other personnel to identify, define, or solve developmental problems.
  1. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • 4years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the Automotive/Automation field is preferred.

Personal/Technical Skills:

  • Practical knowledge of Toyota systems and terminology.
  • Programming knowledge of PLC, HMI, Robotics, and Vision Systems, i.e. AB, Mitsubishi, Cognex, Keyence, Denso types.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience including: wiring, circuits, motors, etc.
  • Arc flash safety regulation knowledge.
  • High analytical ability to break down unusual and difficult problems.
  • Ability to read component, assembly, and equipment drawings.
  • Ability to understand and recommend facility power distribution including conductor sizing.
  • Understanding of ergonomic principles and company safety procedures, regulations and requirements.
  • Experience and training on risk assessment/safety circuit validation for machine/automation processes.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes/principles, company products, trade terminology, manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment, and machine operation.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage others in a team environment.
  • Strong work ethic and self-starter with ability to follow through on assignments.

Language Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Japanese would be beneficial.

Computer/Software:

  • Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook, Internet, etc.).
  • AutoCAD and 3D CAD Software (Inventor or SolidWorks).
  1. Work Environment/Conditions:

Office: Open Office Environment; moderate noise level while performing manufacturing automotive production engineering operations.

Plant: N/A

Travel: Up to 10%

  1. Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing and is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
