Who we are:
Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We’ve grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as “Culinary Ambassador” promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment, and supplies.

Location: Las Vegas, NV
Hours: M-F: 8AM – 5PM. 1 hour lunch. OT as needed
Essential Job Functions:
- Research and develop products to increase company sales by working with the sales department and to identify customer needs and preferences, tasting and evaluating sample products, and introducing new products by conducting sample meetings.
- Maintain records on the Company AS400/ Microsoft BC system, including stock and vendor number setup, inventory adjustments, price changes, and container lists.
- Communicate with custom brokers, freight forwarders, trucking companies, and the LAMTC Warehouse to ensure proper and efficient transfer of goods.
- Prepare cost calculations for ocean and air shipments related to foreign and domestic purchases.
- Create promotional flyers to promote product sales.
- Conduct periodic inventory checks to dispose of expired and damaged items and replenish stock.
- Inspect received products for damage and verify quantity accuracy, documenting findings accordingly.
- Attend semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on the weekend.
- Assist the Sales Department to manage customer accounts, including maintaining customer satisfaction, building rapport, ensuring timely collection of payment, coordinating deliveries, identifying new sales trends, promoting products and services to meet customers’ needs, and accurately entering orders into the Company database.
- Attend Company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Obligation to answer to all management as requested.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to sit and work in an office setting for an extended period of time.
- Able to type and use a computer for an extended period of time.
- Able to talk, hear, walk, stand, smell, taste, reach, bend, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions:
- Noise Level: Normal to loud while in the office.
- Location: Indoors and travel to vendor sites when necessary.
Other Requirements:
- Business level English – Read/write/speak/listen required.
- Conversational level Japanese; fluent in Japanese preferred – Read/write/speak/listen.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Able to work independently and as a team.
- Able to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of purchasing and/or sales experience required.
- 5+ years of food industry experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Possess intermediate mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Knowledge of ERP systems, particularly AS400 or Microsoft BC, is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes preferred.
