The Role
Teach Japanese to adult professionals in engaging one-on-one sessions using immersive technology.
IMMERSE is a language learning platform that helps adults build real-world fluency through live instruction and immersive technology.
We are seeking experienced Japanese language instructors to teach 1:1 communicative lessons for adult learners using our immersive language learning platform and live video sessions.
Learners practice Japanese in realistic environments such as meeting rooms, cafés, and workplace scenarios, helping them build confidence speaking Japanese for professional and everyday communication.
This role is ideal for instructors who enjoy working closely with adult learners, facilitating meaningful conversation, and using innovative teaching technology.
Compensation
Compensation is region- and experience-based. In many regions, rates fall within the $15-$20 USD/hour range.
Compensation includes:
- Paid instructional sessions
- Paid preparation time
- Paid onboarding and training
- Paid operational meetings
Schedule Availability
Current Priority Hours:
- Monday-Friday 5:00-6:00 PM Japan Standard Time (JST)
- (Sunday-Thursday 4:00-5:00 AM Eastern Time)

What a Typical Session Looks Like
- Facilitate structured Japanese communicative lessons in 1:1 sessions with adult learners
- Guide learners through real-life scenarios such as meetings, travel, or professional communication
- Provide feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and fluency
- Sessions typically run 40-50 minutes
- Classes take place either in the IMMERSE platform and/or via video conferencing
- Track learner progress and provide constructive feedback
- Communicate proactively with the instructional team
Required Qualifications
- BA in Japanese Language Education, Applied Linguistics, or closely related field
OR - Bachelor’s degree + Japanese language teaching certification and extensive teaching experience
Additional requirements:
- 2+ years of structured Japanese language teaching experience
- Experience teaching adult learners
- Strong foundation in communicative or task-based language teaching
- Demonstrated ability to develop speaking and listening skills intentionally
- Native or near-native Japanese proficiency (JLPT N1 equivalent or ACTFL Advanced High)
- Minimum B2-level English proficiency
- Comfortable using technology and learning new platforms
- Organized, reliable, and professional

This Role Is Likely Not the Right Fit If:
- Your teaching experience is limited to casual conversation practice or informal tutoring.
- You have taught primarily children and do not have experience teaching adult learners.
- You cannot commit to consistent weekly availability.
Tech Requirements
To ensure class stability and consistency, instructors must meet the following:
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) PC
- Intel i5-1135G7 / AMD Ryzen 5 5500U or better
- Intel Iris Xe / AMD Vega 7 graphics or better
- 8GB RAM
- 10GB available storage
- Ethernet connection required (Wi-Fi-only setups are not supported)
- Minimum 50 Mbps download / 20 Mbps upload internet speed
- Wired headset with built-in microphone
Location & Eligibility
