Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:
Development and improvement of products, cost analysis, and research-related tasks.

Job Duties:

  1. Understand the characteristics, functions, and prices of raw materials, as well as the company’s products and production methods. Grasp customer requirements.
  2. Conduct new product development and product improvement trials based on customer needs, and create product labels in compliance with applicable regulations.
  3. Develop industrial recipes that are cost-conscious by understanding raw material prices and production processes.
  4. Create and improve efficient workflows through implementation and test production on the manufacturing line.
  5. Monitor market trends for raw materials and packaging supplies, and share relevant information with internal departments.
  6. Research alternative materials for ingredients and supplies expected to be difficult to procure.
  7. Research, develop, and propose new manufacturing methods and equipment to improve production efficiency.
  8. Identify trends and changes in the food service and consumer markets to develop new products with a forward-looking approach.
  9. Prepare and deliver market research reports, new product development plans, and presentation materials for the sales team and clients.
  10. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisors, including lifting and moving materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or higher (preference given to candidates who studied Food Science or Biochemistry in college)

Required Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of product development in a food manufacturing environment or a strong willingness to learn
  • Logical and rational thinking, with an understanding of chemical reactions in ingredient formulation and a calm approach to problem-solving
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with supervisors and various departments
  • Ability to present new products effectively
  • Analytical skills to gather data and contribute to product development based on market conditions and the business environment
    (Candidates with 1+ years of work experience or equivalent knowledge in food nutrition or chemistry are preferred)
  • Business-level English and Japanese proficiency to describe and explain flavors and tastes in both languages
  • Perseverance and commitment to achieving goals
  • Physical ability to lift and handle materials weighing approximately 50 pounds

Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Overtime required)
Reports to: R&D Supervisor and/or Manager
Compensation: $20 – $25/hour (Nonexempt)
