OBAYASHI CORPORATION is seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Manager to oversee site safety operations for the Bull Run Project in Boring, Oregon. This position plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and project-specific safety requirements. The Safety Manager will report directly to the Division Safety Manager and collaborate closely with site teams.
Responsibilities:
- Continuously monitors the Health & Safety (H&S) program against trends, new industry practices, legislative changes, business changes, and exposure changes to ensure that the program stays current and continues to evolve.
- Lead all safety efforts on-site and promote a culture of safety across the project team.
- Responsible for developing, conducting, and tracking all relevant safety training on the job site.
- Serve as the on-site Safety Manager for the Bull Run tunneling project.
- Perform atmospheric gas and ventilation testing to ensure safe working conditions.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and recommend corrective actions on the job site.
- Ensure compliance with owner-specific safety requirements and company standards.
- Maintain thorough and up-to-date safety documentation and reports.
- Support and execute the company’s corporate safety program in coordination with the HQ Safety Manager.
- Stay current with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years of safety experience in construction; tunnel or heavy civil experience preferred.
- At least 4 years of experience in a supervisory or safety leadership role.
- Valid OSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 30, OSHA 500, or equivalent) is required.
- Strong knowledge of tunneling construction hazards and mitigation strategies.
- Trained and experienced in atmospheric gas monitoring and ventilation system safety.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to enforce safety policies and lead by example in the field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in large-scale public infrastructure or underground utility projects.
- Familiarity with owner safety requirements in the Pacific Northwest.
Other:
- Work on-site Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional Saturday work as needed.
- Requires navigation of active construction site

Anticipated Salary Range: $120,000.00 – $150,000.00 USD / Year
