Location and hours
- California Food Factory: 1850 Raymer Ave, Fullerton, CA, 92283 (N. Gilbert St and W. Commonwealth Ave.) | Tuesday to Saturday: 5:00 am – 2:00 pm
Responsibilities
The Sanitation Manager is responsible for leading and executing all sanitation operations within a food manufacturing facility to ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and company standards. This role ensures the hygienic condition of production areas, equipment, and tools to prevent contamination and protect product integrity. The Sanitation Manager plays a critical role in supporting Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements.
- Develop, implement, and manage the facility’s Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
- Supervise, train, and coordinate the daily activities of the sanitation team to ensure effective cleaning of production areas and equipment.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and verify the effectiveness of sanitation processes.
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards set by FDA, USDA, and third-party audits (e.g., SQF, BRC).
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance teams to ensure cleaning does not interfere with production schedules or product safety.
- Investigate and resolve sanitation-related deviations, non-conformances, or audit findings.
- Manage cleaning chemical usage, storage, and safety in compliance with OSHA and GHS standards.
- Maintain accurate records of sanitation activities, including cleaning logs, inspection forms, and corrective actions.
- Assist in pest control management and liaise with third-party pest control providers.
- Monitor performance of sanitation team and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance food safety and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Environmental Health, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 3-5 years of sanitation management experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety practices, including HACCP, GMP, and SSOPs.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance (FDA, USDA, FSMA) and third-party food safety certification standards (SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000).
- Proven leadership and team development skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed during cleaning cycles.
- HACCP certification; PCQI training a plus.
- Knowledge of CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
- Experience with sanitation validation and environmental monitoring programs.
- Must be able to work in wet, cold, or hot environments typical of food production areas.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods, and operate sanitation equipment safely.
