Overview of Position
There are multiple positions avaialble.
Under general supervision, assesses communication skills and provides appropriate intervention for students in accordance with District policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Organizes and maintains a system for identifying students with communication problems; determines through evaluation procedures the level of the communication skills of those students referred for testing; records evaluation results and writes reports, if needed.
- Refers students whose communication problems require additional evaluation and/or intervention by other professionals; completes required documentation and maintains compliance with school district procedures and state and federal laws.
- Plans and implements interventions for eligible students within the total educational setting, and works collaboratively with students and teachers, as appropriate, to facilitate the implementation.
- Consults with parents to share student progress and instructs parents in the implementation of home programs, when appropriate.
- Participates as a member of the school-student intervention team to address concerns about a student’s communication skills and development.
- Consults with classroom teachers to provide appropriate intervention strategies and materials.
- Consults with district personnel and out-of-district agencies regarding students’ program plans and assessment results.
- Provides information regarding communication development, disorders, and services to staff and community
- Trains, evaluates, and supervises student teachers, as appropriate.
- Participates in staff meetings and serves on other District committees.
- Pursues professional development activities to update skills and apply current practices.
- Performs related duties, as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Master’s degree in speech and language disorders, audiology, or an equivalent field.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSES:
Valid Washington State ESA Certification as a Communication Disorders Specialist.
