Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Director – Restaurant Construction, to lead and manage the development of multiple restaurant projects simultaneously (up to 10 active locations). This role oversees the full construction lifecycle – from pre-construction planning through grand opening – ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to brand standards.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in restaurant or retail construction, multi-unit rollout execution, contractor/vendor management, and budget control.

This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement with flexible structure.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Oversee 8-10 concurrent restaurant construction projects.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and quality control across all locations.
  • Lead ground-up builds, tenant improvements (TI), and remodels.

Pre-Construction & Planning

  • Review and coordinate architectural, MEP, and kitchen plans.
  • Lead budgeting, bidding, and contractor selection process.
  • Coordinate with landlords and property management teams.

Construction Execution

  • Supervise general contractors and subcontractors.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure compliance with plans and brand standards.
  • Monitor project timelines and resolve delays proactively.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage construction budgets.
  • Approve change orders and control cost overruns.
  • Track project financial performance and report to executive leadership.

Permits & Compliance

  • Oversee permit approvals and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, health department, and ADA requirements.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with operations, culinary, design, and executive teams.
  • Provide leadership to project managers (if applicable).
  • Maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction management experience.
  • 5+ years in restaurant or retail construction.
  • Experience managing 5+ concurrent projects.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Commercial kitchen construction
    • MEP systems
    • Health & safety regulations
    • Multi-state permitting process
  • Proficiency in construction management software.
  • Strong budgeting and cost control skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in multi-unit restaurant rollout.
  • Experience working with franchise or corporate restaurant brands.
