We are seeking a highly skilled and bilingual Sr. Financial Accounting Manager – Japan Operations to oversee our Japan-based accounting, statutory reporting, and consolidated financial operations. This strategic role is based in our Atlanta office and will work closely with our Tokyo-based team, requiring expert-level Japanese fluency (reading, writing, speaking). The role serves as a key partner to the Global CFO Office, supporting the development of scalable financial infrastructure, internal controls, and global reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Policy

  • Prepare and oversee Japan statutory financial statements in compliance with JGAAP and local filing requirements
  • Analyze the impact of new accounting standards, regulatory changes, or complex transactions
  • Establish and enforce group-wide accounting policies and ensure global consistency
  • Support internal and external stakeholder reporting (e.g., internal management, vendors, regulatory bodies)

2. Accounting Standards & Technical Leadership

  • Lead development and updates to Mujin’s Global Accounting Manual
  • Act as the go-to expert on advanced accounting topics across GAAP frameworks (US GAAP, IFRS, JGAAP)
  • Coordinate projects addressing changes in accounting standards or audit compliance
  • Oversee financial consolidation, cash flow reports, and budget vs. actual variance analysis

3. Internal Controls & Audit Management

  • Ensure robust internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), including documentation and testing
  • Design and monitor controls for general ledger, cash, tax, and transactional integrity
  • Lead audit planning and coordinate with external auditors (Big 4 or equivalent)
  • Collaborate with internal audit and risk functions on governance, SOX readiness (if applicable), and risk mitigation

4. Consolidation & Global Intercompany Transactions

  • Oversee intercompany eliminations, transfer pricing documentation, and currency conversion processes
  • Standardize and validate monthly reporting packages from Japan-based entities
  • Maintain reconciliations for key balance sheet and P&L accounts, including multi-entity and multi-currency roll-ups
  • Ensure compliance with intra-group transaction rules and Group Tax policy

5. Systems, Process Improvement & Transformation

  • Partner with FP&A and IT to optimize ERP systems (e.g., reporting, close automation, dashboarding)
  • Drive continuous improvement in monthly close timelines and reporting accuracy
  • Design scalable processes suitable for rapid growth and global expansion
  • Contribute to automation, data integrity, and standardization efforts across finance

6. Business Collaboration & Strategic Finance Alignment

  • Align with global stakeholders across Finance (FP&A, Treasury, Tax), Legal, and Operations
  • Actively participate in strategic finance initiatives tied to IPO-readiness, M&A, or expansion
  • Serve as a cross-border liaison between Atlanta and Tokyo teams-bridging language, time zones, and financial operations

7. Team Leadership & Knowledge Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop Tokyo-based accounting staff and US-based Sr. Accountant
  • Build and scale a high-performing global reporting and disclosure team
  • Lead training and knowledge-sharing initiatives to improve technical accounting depth and team cross-functionality

Qualifications & Requirements

  • CPA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent certification required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; advanced degree a plus
  • Expert-level Japanese language proficiency (written, verbal, reading) and strong English fluency
  • Ability to work daily from Mujin’s U.S. headquarters in Suwanee, GA
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or audit roles, including international exposure
  • Strong understanding of global accounting frameworks (US GAAP, IFRS, JGAAP)
  • Experience leading audits with Big 4 or public company audit standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical rigor, and organizational capability
  • Proven ability to lead teams across time zones and cultures

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with IPO readiness, SEC reporting, or TSE/Japan Financial Services Agency filings
  • Familiarity with project accounting, long-term revenue recognition (e.g., % of Completion, ASC 606)
  • ERP implementation or systems transformation experience (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, SAP)
  • Background in engineering, software, or robotics industries a plus

Work Environment & Travel

  • Travel Requirement: Less than 5%
  • Prolonged periods of computer use and sedentary work
  • Ability to work extended hours when coordinating across Japan-U.S. time zones
