Store Support Associate (Delica Department)

We’re immediately hiring associates for our Delicatessen Department. Experienced Deli Clerks, Line Cooks, and Prep Cooks are Needed!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES in Delica Department (Line Cook/ Deli Clerk) (responsibilities include, but are not limited to)

The Delica Department items for Delica products include all Deli, Sushi, and Bakery items.
• Processing, cutting, and wrapping Delica items
• Maintains a well-organized back stock/cooler area
• Packaging our food products
• Cook hot meals (Sushi, Deli, bakery, and Japanese food)
• Food Preparation
• Follow recipes and must accurately measure ingredients
• Maintains good communication with store management, associates and suppliers/vendors
• Maintaining cleanliness of the store/ store upkeep
• Ensuring proper presentation of our delica items along with providing a smile, greeting, and assisting customers who visit our Store.
• Ensures delica items are handled, stocked, rotated and merchandised
• Checks product temperature to ensure freshness and quality
• Ability to maintain a knife grip in order to cut meat to specification
• Ability to weigh, price, label, organize and rotate meat products per Marukai’ standards
• Unloading meat and deli Items upon vendor deliveries
• Checks product temperature to ensure freshness and quality
• Ability to weigh, price, label, organize and rotate perishable products per Marukai’ standards
• Ensures that all meat products are in its right place, so shoppers can find what they need quickly and easily
• Operating pallet jack, scissor lift, baler, compactor and scrub machine
• Unpacking and stocking delica and sushi items
• Must clean and sanitize work areas
• Work Environment will be in extreme temperature

Customer Service:
Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions
Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
Meets or exceeds Department’s sales goals assigned through the efficient execution of Company policies and procedures
Maintains cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor
Ensures a safe and clean work environment
Cross Training:
Store Support Associates exemplify teamwork and are open to and willing to be trained and step in when needed in all departments and similar skilled areas for filling and development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Must be 18 or older to use sharp knives, use ladders, scaffolds or their substitutes, substitutes above 6 feet in height, and to operate or assist in operating power-driven machinery or equipment.
• Must be able to use job related equipment such as slicer, scale, saw, knife and wrapper
• No experience required, but a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a similar work environment is preferred
• Previous experience as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, or Deli Clerk experience is preferred
• Possess a CA Food Handling license or the ability to acquire one
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without aid
Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Hands are in frequent contact with water, vegetables, deli, and sushi meat while performing job duties.

REQUIREMENTS
• Comfortable with working in a kitchen environment
• Must be able to follow recipes and accurately measure ingredients
• Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks
Able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service
• Able to read, write, and do simple math problems
• Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions
• Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management
• Ability to interact with all levels of management
• Has or willing to obtain a CA Food Handler’s Certificate
• Other job related tasks which are assigned by the supervisor and/or manager
