The Global Resources Center (GRC) is a specialized library service point in the Gelman Library tailored to the needs of George Washington University’s globally-focused academic programs. Our interdisciplinary collections include five specialized collections: the China Documentation Center (CDC); Okinawa Collection / Japan Resource Center(JRC); Taiwan Resource Center (TRC); Resource Center for Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern and Central Europe (REECE); and Middle East and North Africa Resource Center (MENA). Position Specific Summary
The Global Resources Ctr seeks an hourly employee with strong Japanese language skills who enjoys research, multitasking, and working with people to join the GRC staff at the GW University Libs. The person in this position will work on assigned projects; assist students, faculty and visiting researchers with their research; conduct collections processing & management tasks and support general GRC efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to explore specialized non-Western content, engage with researchers and scholars at GWU & DC-based thinktanks, and learn about collections & resources in the field of international and area studies. We train all GRC employees to use the library’s online public & staff support systems, & GWU’s wide array of research-focused databases.
Standard Position Description
The student will support the administrative and logistical tasks in a GW library. Tasks may include: retrieving and reshelving materials, staffing the reference desk and assisting on-site patrons, fulfilling patron requests for scans and photocopies of materials, stacks management, assisting staff with researching patron reference queries, monitoring patrons for compliance library and university protocols, and record-keeping tasks to support collection management practices. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Required Qualifications
This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Japanese-language proficiency. Graduate-level coursework relating to study of international affairs. Experience providing service in an academic or research oriented environment. Good communication and organizational skills. Reliable. Ability to work in-person, on-campus.
