Responsibilities:

  • Implement a comprehensive Japanese language immersion curriculum for elementary students aligned with North Carolina Curriculum standards.
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered lessons across core subjects, focusing on language acquisition.
  • Create a classroom environment that captures the culture and language, both orally and in print.
  • Assess student progress and design interventions to support continuous academic growth toward grade-level expectations.
  • Develop specialized instructional materials in Japanese to support the NC SCOS, using visual aids, real objects, and manipulative materials.
  • Engage with parents to foster support for students’ progress in the language immersion program.
  • Collaborate with colleagues teaching other target languages (French, Chinese, German) and with Japanese immersion teachers to ensure a cohesive educational experience.
  • Participate in various school meetings, including staff meetings and PTSO meetings.
  • Track student academic progress, creating assessments such as tests, quizzes, and projects.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of students with varying learning styles and abilities.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and create a respectful, inclusive environment.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Full fluency in Japanese, with familiarity with Japanese culture.
  • Prior teaching experience and elementary teaching certification preferred.

  • Willingness to pursue teaching certification if not already certified.
