We are looking for an enthusiastic technical writer to help us document our expanding list of high-tech robotic products. As a technical writer at ORT you’ll be involved in new product development from early conceptual stages through product release and beyond. You’ll work with talented subject matter experts in the ORT engineering and software teams to produce complete and accurate documentation to suit our customers’ needs. Your work will directly impact the success of our robotic products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and maintain high-quality, succinct user-facing documentation to support industrial robots, collaborative robots, autonomous mobile robots, associated software, and their peripherals.
- Work with the Engineering, Marketing, and Compliance teams during New Product Introduction (NPI) phases to acquire a thorough understanding of the product’s form, function, and features.
- Author content for a global audience of system integrators, OEMs, support channels, and end-users.
- Deliver complete, reviewed, and approved content as required by varying project timelines.
- Capture, track, and resolve multiple documentation update requests.
- Follow established procedures for content approval, records, and document releasing.
- Interpret data from various sources to transform into clear and concise user-facing content.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Engineering preferred.
- 3+ years of experience with user documentation
- Demonstrate an aptitude for understanding and applying complex technologies within a robotics environment, with the ability to analyze intricate systems and translate technical concepts into easily understood content.
- Differentiate between internal, under-the-hood detail from important user-facing information.
- Author in a consistent manner within a document while conforming with the style and tone of our existing manual library.
- Create high quality line drawings and illustrations to supplement text (Adobe Illustrator).
- Familiarity with DITA and XML authoring systems (Ixiasoft or similar).
- Translation / localization from English to Japanese.
- Strong typography skills to ensure clarity, readability, and professional presentation of complex information with effective use of fonts, spacing, and hierarchy to support consistent branding.
- Apply audience awareness to tailor documentation for sales, support, maintenance, system integrators, and other personnel that work with our products in factory automation environments.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to recognize and communicate risks for deadlines or other time-sensitive dependencies.
- Travel Requirements – approximately 2-6 times per year
The annual salary range for this role in California is $110,000 – $135,000 a year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus program. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
