Haverford College invites applications for our part-time (9.5 hours per week), exempt Japanese Language Instructor (Drill Instructor) opportunity. This is a fixed-term position for the Fall 2025 Semester.
Job Description
Work Location: This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, pursuant to the College’s Work Location Policy.
About the Position
The Japanese Language Instructor (Drill Instructor) is expected to teach Japanese language courses in person, engage in course-related assignments, and participate in program-related activities for the Fall 2025 semester (August 15-December 31, 2025, excluding the mid-semester break).
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach First-Year Japanese courses for 3 hours per week (in-person, on-site)
- Engage in course-related tasks and assignments, including instructional preparation, grading, and student consultations, for 6 hours per week
- Participate in program-related meetings, activities, and/or projects for 0.5 hour per week
Line of Report: The Japanese Language Instructor (Drill Instructor) reports to Director of Japanese Language Program.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.A. in Japanese pedagogy or a related field
Professional Competencies
- Excellent teaching record as a Japanese language instructor in college settings
- Basic computer skills
- Expert proficiency in Japanese, both verbal and written
- Familiarity with Japanese pedagogical grammar
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organization skills
Preferred Qualifications
- M.A. in Japanese pedagogy or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of Japanese culture and society
