This employer is the first-tier U.S. subsidiary of a public Japanese parent corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and serves as a holding company for its four U.S. subsidiaries.  This subsidiary oversees and monitors the parent company’s overall U.S. business activities and financial affairs, sets strategic directions for the U.S. subsidiaries, and serves as a liaison between the parent company and its U.S. subsidiaries.

The Accounting & General Assistant works under the general direction of the Manager, Finance & Accounting and assists them as well as the subsidiary President in all areas of accounting, finance and in providing general administrative duties.

Accounting/Bookkeeping responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that financial data is entered correctly and accurately into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Accurately and promptly processing of AP/AR/Payroll/GL related entries as required.
  • Maintaining and participating in month-end closing and reconciliations as needed.
  • Being responsible for company credit cards reconciliation and payments.
  • Preparing quarterly packages and other monthly financial reports such as forecast, actual, comparison, variance analysis, etc. on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Providing some accounting support work for other U.S. subsidiaries, such as Sales & Use tax monthly basis filing, etc.

Administrative responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in managing the product shipping delivery (Invoice/PL etc.) from Japan, monitoring the inventory level, and requesting the replenishment orders.
  • Assisting the Manager/Specialist with other administrative work including arranging traveling accommodations.
  • Translating documents from Japanese to English or from English to Japanese, including legal and technical documents as well as corporate communications and news articles as needed.
  • Communicating with the parent company public relations division and coordinating with subsidiary Human Resources and Marketing to provide subsidiary-related articles and content for the parent company’s employee magazine.
  • Assisting new transferees from Japan in adjusting to the new environment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 relevant experience is required.  Relevant experience includes prior experience in general accounting, bookkeeping and providing general administrative/executive support.
  • General accounting knowledge is required.
  • Fluent in both Japanese (native level) and English in reading, writing and verbal communications.
  • Aptitude for general understanding of technical matters required for translating technical documents.
  • Prior experience with Sage 50 accounting software preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Must set a tone of responsible behavior and maintain a high level of professionalism and work performance.
  • Ability to meet work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Should possess technical aptitude to learn new office practices and equipment.
  • Appreciation for and ability to perform to deadlines is critical.
