The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for temporary Invasive Insect Pest Surveyors located in the Treasure Valley area

SPECIAL NOTIFICATION: This non-classified position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission. It does not come with benefits.

Insect Trapping Surveyor Primary Responsibilities:

  • Put out, monitor, and pull traps for Japanese beetle survey
  • May assist with putting out/monitoring/ pulling traps for gypsy moth, apple maggot, and stone fruit commodity pests
  • May assist with putting out/monitoring/ pulling traps for corn commodity and small grains commodity pests
  • May assist with visual inspections for corn commodity and small grains commodity pests

Requirements: The successful applicant must be able to fulfill the following duties:

  • Read road & topographic maps
  • Ability to work alone in remote area and work independently
  • Operate GPS devices
  • Operate electronic tablet device
  • Hike or walk for an extended period of time over long distances on uneven, rough, or off-road terrain with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.)
  • Possibility of working evenings, weekends, or long hours
  • State vehicle usage
  • Valid driver’s license required
