Battery Electrode Manufacturing Engineer (Calendaring / Roll-to-Roll / Laser Processing)

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Battery Electrode Manufacturing Engineer to support the implementation and launch of advanced EV battery manufacturing equipment. This role is responsible for production preparation, equipment installation, process validation, and new model launches within a high-volume battery manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with battery electrode manufacturing, calendaring equipment, roll-to-roll processing, laser cutting, or laser welding. This is a hands-on engineering position supporting equipment vendors, construction teams, and manufacturing operations from procurement through production launch.
What You’ll Do
- Lead procurement, installation, validation, commissioning, and production launch of battery manufacturing equipment.
- Develop manufacturing process plans and machine specifications using Lean Manufacturing and Toyota Production System (TPS) principles.
- Create and maintain project schedules, budgets, KPI tracking, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers, construction teams, contractors, and cross-functional engineering groups throughout project execution.
- Review mechanical, electrical, and civil designs while providing engineering feedback during equipment installation and startup.
- Plan and execute pre-production trials, equipment buyoffs, validation activities, and production readiness assessments.
- Identify field issues during installation and implement effective countermeasures to maintain project timelines.
- Create technical documentation, engineering drawings, work instructions, and project reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining a strong safety-first culture.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent engineering experience).
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years supporting battery, electronics, chemical, or advanced manufacturing equipment through procurement, installation, validation, commissioning, and production launch.
- Experience leading capital equipment projects, including schedules, budgets, KPI reporting, and project execution.
- Experience creating manufacturing process plans and equipment specifications using Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
- Experience with AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo, or similar CAD software.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including domestic and international travel.
- Ability to support weekend work and planned shutdown periods as project schedules require.

Highly Desired Experience
The strongest candidates will have hands-on experience with:
- Calendaring machines used with foil, paper, or steel
- Laser cutting and laser welding processes
- Battery electrode manufacturing processes
- High-volume automated manufacturing equipment
- Production preparation and new model launch activities
- Manufacturing equipment troubleshooting and process improvements
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Engineering degree.
- Experience with Toyota Production Engineering methodologies.
- Experience directing structured manufacturing trials and production validation activities.
- Knowledge of industrial controls, PLC troubleshooting, Mitsubishi or Omron PLCs, industrial networks, or MES systems.
- Japanese language skills are a plus.
