Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Automated Driving Systems (ADS) Systems Development Engineer to join us in creating the future of mobility as we develop next-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The primary responsibility of this role is to support the development of Toyota’s ADSs through system development, software development, and validation related to items such as recognition, mapping, localization, path planning, and vehicle control.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the IVS department’s objective to research, develop, validate and implement innovative ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems) and ADS technologies.
What you’ll be doing
As Software Design Engineer in our Advanced Driving Systems (ADS) area, you’ll bring our next generation product to market. Here’s what you’ll be doing as a member of our team:
Identify customer needs for ADAS through data driven assessment of technology,
Support the evaluation and tuning of ADAS / ADS systems with a focus on North American road conditions and challenges.
Communicate functional / performance issues through project leaders to suppliers & TMC proposing appropriate countermeasures.
Implement quantitative benchmarking methods for ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) on competitor vehicles using GPS, camera, or other sensors.
Configure, modify and troubleshoot test vehicles, sensors and data acquisition equipment.
Analyze test data and make performance change recommendations to the system owners through project leaders
Facilitate daily communication with Japanese counterparts to align global activities and drive consensus building.
Summarize data logically to create easy-to-understand visualized reports for technical storytelling. To help communicate proactively with stakeholders and management toward building consensus.
Collaborate with different IVS groups to gather key information or tasks to support production design and evaluation groups of future ADS features.
Drive / evaluate prototype vehicles in simulated, closed track, and public road environments including the ability to gain necessary driver certifications.
Requirements:
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, or computer science, or equivalent bachelor’s degree.
Creating or modifying scripts to automatically analyze vehicle data using Python (3 years of industry use experience)
Automotive test track experience, with hands-on expertise in vehicle performance evaluation, safety testing, and data-driven analysis in dynamic track environments. (2 years)
Experience with CAN (Controller Area Network) tools and troubleshooting (2 years)
Experience in requirement / specification creation following agile or waterfall software development process. (3 years)
Experience in developing camera or sensor recognition of objects involving lane detection, pedestrian detection, stitching images and use of algorithms such as Gaussian filters, Gradient calculation, Edge detection, etc.
Experience in benchmarking competitor ADAS systems with quantitative analysis
Strong visual presentation skills with consideration of international audiences.
Strong time management and task prioritization skills.
This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record acceptable by company standards is required for this position. (Yes/No)
Willingness to work overtime, when necessary, up to 20% of the time.
Willingness to work a hybrid work style. Attend in person meetings 3-4 days per week.
Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
What you may bring
Master of Science (or higher) in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent technical area.
Experience designing products in areas of automotive engineering or robotics
General knowledge of vehicle control; propulsion, braking, steering, etc.
Experience with Python programming
Experience in realizing real time control solutions for robotics or other automated mobile systems
Experience in developing or evaluating ADAS/ADS technologies such as mapping, localization, path planning, and/or control, including quantitative performance comparisons against benchmark competitors.
Experience with camera, radar, lidar, or sonar technologies.
Experience in collecting and analyzing data from simulations or test vehicles.
