SUMMARY
Leads the Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) team in defining and carrying out all company EHSS policies and procedures to ensure company compliance to regulatory and statutory requirements. The team includes ~5 EHSS professionals and may include Wastewater Treatment and/or Chemical Analysis Lab operations. Partners with business leaders and provides EHSS technical knowledge and expertise in the operation to build a strong EHSS culture of operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – include the following:
- Regular predictable attendance with the ability to be flexible with the schedule when needed, including non-standard working hours (ex. nights and weekends)
- Create, design, and implement a company-wide EHSS strategy to reduce incidents, eliminate violations, minimize risk exposure, and attain company EHSS-related goals.
- Develop, implement, and coordinate EHSS programs across the business. Know and understand ISO14001 requirements to maintain certification and advance the IAF environmental management system.
- Analyze accident, near-miss, and safety concerns data to recommend proactive solutions to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents. Partner with leadership to implement countermeasures.
- Provide technical assistance companywide to all departments on EHSS process, procedure, regulations, and guidelines. This requires intimate knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements.
- Conduct periodic surveys, audits, and inspections of facilities and equipment to comply with code requirements, identify safety & environmental hazards, prevent accidents & spills, and conserve company property.
- Develop and deliver EHSS training company to all Team Members. Define and implement an EHSS training plan for all Team Members and especially those with specialty training requirements (first responder, incident commander, spill response, hazardous chemicals, etc). Establish train-the-trainer capability for key topics.
- Consult with managers on the existence, utilization, and/or operation of personal protective equipment and procedures, noise abatement equipment and procedures, material and safety data sheets, hazardous chemical correction and health, safety and security programs.
- Determines the magnitude of noise, air, soil, and water pollution exposure or nuisance to workers and the public.
- Interprets occupational safety and health laws, rules, and regulations; determines compliance with safety and health laws; holds conferences with management to discuss identified violations and/or deficiencies and recommends corrections.
- Represents the company on all EHSS matters with outside regulatory agencies from local, county, state, and federal levels. Ensures compliance with laws and regulations, including required regulatory reporting.
- Manages workers’ compensation in conjunction with service provider and Human Resources. Partners with the local clinic on occupational health support for work-related injury care and hearing testing.
- Help other departments as necessary. Guides EHSS requirements, process, and procedures.
- Creates company and departmental goals to support company EHSS targets. Create performance reports, presentations, and countermeasures to corporate leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years related experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degrees and/or applicable supplemental specialty certifications preferred. Ideal candidates will possess experience with 1) industrial safety practices in a metals manufacturing environment, 2) environmental management systems, including non-hazardous and hazardous chemicals and waste stream management, and 3) wastewater treatment operations. Waste Water Treatment certification (level A or B) preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluent in English. Japanese as a second language is helpful.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The EHSS manager will be required to complete an annual hazmat physical and maintain a physical condition to properly wear a respirator if/when needed. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk or hear. The Team Member is occasionally required to stand and use hands, walk, bend, lift, or twist. The Team Member is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The Team Member is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The Team Member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The Team Member must be able to lift a container of fasteners weighing up to 25 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently required to sit; to use their hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to talk or hear.
