The Global Electronics Association – the leading global trade organization for the electronics industry – is seeking an experienced and strategic Japan Representative to drive industry engagement, business growth, and public-private collaboration in Japan. This senior-level role is instrumental in aligning Japan’s vibrant electronics ecosystem with the Association’s global mission to enable better electronics for a better world. This role reports to the President, East Asia and this role is located in Japan.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stakeholder Engagement & Ecosystem Building
- Build and deepen relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies (e.g., METI), industry organizations (e.g., JEITA), major companies, and technology leaders.
- Represent the Global Electronics Association in high-level dialogues with industry and public-sector leaders.
- Lead or facilitate working groups, industry committees, and thought-leadership events across critical domains (standards, technology, policy, etc.).
- Strategic Development & Market Growth
- Develop and execute localized strategies to expand membership, revenue, and program adoption (standards, certification, workforce training, etc.).
- Identify emerging market segments and align local initiatives with the Association’s global roadmap.
- Drive advocacy and industry intelligence initiatives to inform policy and business decisions.
- Operations, Team Leadership & Program Delivery
- Serve as P&L owner for the Global Electronics Association’s Japan office; manage annual budget, reporting, and forecasting.
- Localize and operationalize the Association’s global programs for the Japanese market.
- Lead and mentor a small high-performing team, building a mission-driven, collaborative culture.
- Partner with global and regional teams (marketing, public affairs, technical programs) to ensure cohesive execution.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in electronics/high-tech industries.
- 5+ years in senior roles (e.g., Country Manager, General Manager, or Regional Director) with proven success in business development and P&L leadership.
- Experience in B2B technology, standards organizations, or trade associations is a strong advantage.
- Skills & Competencies
- Bilingual fluency: Native-level Japanese and professional English.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and market insight.
- Stakeholder-savvy with an extensive network in Japan’s electronics and public sectors.
- Strong understanding of standards development, supply chain dynamics, and industry policy.
- Cross-cultural agility and experience working in a global matrix environment.
- Financial literacy and proficiency in CRM and analytics tools.
Travel Requirements
- Domestic: Up to 30% (meetings, site visits, events)
- International: Occasional (regional/global HQ meetings)
The pay range for this position is $100 – $200k annually. The Global Electronics Association considers education, experience, internal equity, and other qualifying criteria to determine starting payrates. In addition to compensation benefits, the Association offers a variety of health and welfare benefits, based on eligibility, including job status/hours worked each week.
