About the Role

What if your mastery of Japanese could directly shape how AI understands and communicates in one of the world’s most nuanced languages? We’re looking for Japanese language experts to evaluate and improve AI systems trained on Japanese-language content – helping ensure that AI speaks Japanese the way people actually do: naturally, accurately, and with genuine cultural awareness.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No prior AI experience required – just a deep command of the Japanese language and a sharp eye for quality.

What You’ll Do

• Review AI-generated Japanese translations and original content for accuracy and naturalness
• Identify mistranslations, unnatural phrasing, register mismatches, and cultural issues
• Suggest improvements for clear, idiomatic, and culturally appropriate Japanese
• Provide structured, detailed feedback on linguistic and cultural quality
• Work independently and asynchronously on your own schedule

Who You Are

• Native or near-native fluency in Japanese
• Strong written communication skills in Japanese and English
• Solid command of contemporary Japanese usage across different contexts and registers
• Comfortable evaluating written language quality at scale
• Naturally detail-oriented with a consistent, systematic approach
• No prior AI or tech experience required

Nice to Have

• Experience in translation, localization, editing, or Japanese language instruction
• Familiarity with AI tools or language evaluation workflows
• Knowledge of regional variation, keigo (honorific language), or specialized Japanese domains
