1 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Plant Manager.
2 PURPOSE
2.1 Function
2.1.1 Manage the development, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Quality System, ensuring that all DAC, Customer, and IATF requirements are in compliance.
2.1.2 Serve as Management Representative in regards to the Quality Management System.
2.1.3 Interpretation of established Customer and internal product quality standards.
2.2 Authority
2.2.1 Ensure implementation of necessary procedures and work instructions to meet requirements of Quality System Registration per IATF 16949. Effect processes when needed.
2.2.2 Staff and organize Quality Department to maximize efficiency and promote continuous improvement.
2.2.3 Establish department goals and objectives.
2.2.4 Work with Management team (ME, PC, Mfg., HR) on all aspects of plant management to bring cross functional knowledge to all issues.
3 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 Develop a work force skilled in quality systems, processes, and procedures.
3.2 Develop and administer the department budget.
3.3 Development of appropriate SPC applications.
3.4 Manage the development and maintenance of the Quality System per applicable requirements and serve as Management Representative for Quality System
3.5 Development of product/process inspection and audit systems, including development and procurement of required gaging.
3.6 Provide various reports as required per management review checklists.
3.7 Development and maintenance of gage calibration systems, including Gage R&R.
3.8 Development and maintenance of Corrective and Preventive action systems.
3.9 Manage the development of plant APQP system and monitor effectiveness.
3.10 Maintain the Quality Manual.
3.11 Serve as primary contact for customer quality issues and ultimately responsible for customer satisfaction
3.12 Develop a work force to negotiate fairly while holding accountable supply base and develop quality metrics.
3.13 Continually work with suppliers to improve performance by leading corrective action system and closing loop on final 8D responses.
3.14 Interact routinely with Purchasing, Engineering and Suppliers to pro-actively improve quality of components and analyze supplier capabilities.
3.15 Perform supplier Quality Systems audits with team or individual and provide support for supplier Quality Systems improvements.
3.16 Other responsibilities as assigned by management to meet needs of organization.
4 MEASUREMENTS/COMPETENCIES
4.1 Success in balancing production goals vs. Customer quality requirements.
4.2 Maintenance of gage systems.
4.3 Quality system maintenance (includes IATF 16949 compliance).
4.4 Ongoing training and development of work force in quality systems and procedures.
4.5 Development of quality staff.
4.6 Continuous improvement activities.
4.7 Customer audit results in quality area.
4.8 Timeliness and reliability of Quality responsible APQP activities.
4.9 Problem solving accomplishments.
4.10 Effectiveness of customer support.
5 SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY
5.1 Direct Relationships
5.1.1 Manages Quality Engineer Supervisor, Quality Engineers, Quality Supervisors, and all other hourly Quality Associates as assigned.
5.2 Indirect Relationships
5.2.1 Will interface with customers, Engineering, Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Human Resources, industrial relations, local community officials, and technical and trade organizations.
Requirements
6 WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional environment, as well as a manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This role also is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
7 QUALIFICATIONS
7.1 Minimum of seven years’ experience in Japanese and domestic Automotive OEM.
7.2 Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent ASQC certification (CQE or CQM).
7.3 Working knowledge of:
7.3.1 Supplier Management
7.3.2 IATF 16949 Quality System requirements
7.3.3 CMM/Layout
7.3.4 SPC/DOE
7.3.5 Gage calibration/R&R
7.3.6 Structured problem solving (8-D, PR/R, Storyboard, etc.)
7.3.7 OEM quality expectations
7.3.8 Procedure writing
7.3.9 APQP
7.3.10 Supplier Quality systems
7.3.11 Poka Yoke and Japanese manufacturing methods
7.4 Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
7.5 Ability to train.
7.6 Computer literate.
7.7 Team player.
8 PHYSICAL DEMANDS
8.1 Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
8.2 Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
8.3 Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
9 POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position may require extended hours and possible weekend work.
10 TRAVEL
Travel to vendor and customer worksites may be required.
