Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Chassis Design and Platform Development (CDPF) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Engineer who can lead the development of Chassis system such as suspension/axle, tire/wheels, cockpit controls, steering systems, brake system and controls, truck frames and more for Passenger Car vehicles. As a Senior engineer you will be expected to lead the development of systems/components and coach other engineers.
The current position is in Vehicle Development & Dynamic performance for monocoque vehicle group (DP-K) that is developing vehicle dynamics as well as components and systems of suspension, wheel & tire, cockpit for unibody passenger vehicles both gas and electrified, produced in North America.
Reporting to the CDPF DP-K Sr Manager, the person in this role will support the CDPF’s objective to design and develop chassis systems and components to guarantee performance, safety, and competitiveness.
What you’ll be doing
- Work with our partners – related R&D divisions, plants, suppliers, purchasing & TMC-chassis – to realize those system/component designs into quality production level parts.
- Be part of the Vehicle Development team and take designs from platform, all the way through to vehicle line-off, and beyond, to maintain competitiveness and quality.
- Apply experience with vehicle dynamics development, targeting vehicle performance targets for new models, and develop the parts and systems which achieve these targets.
- Lead chassis project teams to achieve vehicle development objectives in line with the overall project.
- Be highly proficient in your respective functional field, leading CDPF engineers with respect to best practices, maximizing performance, mass, cost, new technologies, industry trends, and regulations.
What you bring
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in an Engineering discipline or other related technical fields.
- Minimum of 5+ years of related industry experience in design and development of Chassis related parts and systems.
- Minimum of 5+ years experience in root cause analysis and determining effective countermeasures.
- Minimum of 5+ years experience designing with CATIA 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
- Minimum of 5+ years experience designing parts for strength and stiffness using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Demonstrated experience in part and system design for performance using V-shaped development process.
- Demonstrated experience in design using Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRMFM) and/or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Completed TBP through Panel.
Added bonus if you have
- Experience with suspension component design (Arm / Bearing / Knuckle / Carrier / Spring/ Stabilizer bar / Tire).
- Experience with vehicle suspension tunning and tuning parts development, including shock absorbers, springs, stabilizer bars.
- Design experience with various CAE tools.
- Experience with vehicle dynamic performance design and modeling.
- Experience with design and release of Toyota chassis drawings or RDDPs
- Hands on experience with chassis components (repairing or modifying).
- Experience with overseas training assignment (ICT) in chassis field.
- Japanese language proficiency.
