Summary

The Summer Instructional Teacher will provide academic instruction and classroom support for the BGSU Upward Bound Summer Residential Learning Community. This federally funded program is designed to prepare first-generation and low-income high school students from Toledo, Ohio, for postsecondary education. Instructors will be responsible for teaching assigned core courses, serving as role models, and ensuring students have a structured and engaging learning experience.

Essential Functions

• Teach assigned courses in one of the program’s core subjects using a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-driven lessons that encourage students to collaborate, research, and develop real-world solutions to academic and practical challenges.
• Provide classroom instruction and assistance, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning environment.
• Serve as a positive role model for high school students, fostering a growth mindset and a love for learning.
• Act as an administrative liaison, facilitating communication between participants and program administrators.
• Ensure adherence to program policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and respectful classroom environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a bachelor’s degree in an academic discipline related to the assigned course.
• Prior teaching or instructional experience is preferred.
• Must possess strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and motivate high school students.
