We’ve grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as “Culinary Ambassador” promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 7,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

We are looking for an Accounting Clerk for our coming-son Houston branch in the state of Texas. The position is responsible for performing typical A/R, A/P, and closing functions.

Hours: M-F: 9AM – 6PM

Essential Job Functions

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable duties (50%):
• Process manual and wire payments
• Review invoices and update the Company database
• Monitor and verify payment with vendors in a timely manner
• Review AP balance and resolve invoice discrepancies
• Create and maintain vendor files and 1099s on the Company database
• Generate and upload daily banking reports
• Post customer payments by recording cash, check, and credit card transactions
• Work with the banks and sales teams to ensure collection of upcoming payments and resolve overdue payments
• Liaise with banks to verify electronic cash transfers and credit card payments
• Review AR balance and assist in reconciliating discrepancies
• Create credit memos for overpayments and underpayments
• Work with collection agencies to clear delinquent payments

Closing duties (50%)
• Transfer journal entries to the general ledger
• Calculate and confirm general ledger accounts
• Make preliminary trial balances to confirm accuracy
• Enter adjusting journal entries
• Make an adjusted trial balance
• Generate financial statements
• Enter closing entries
• Generate a final trial balance

Other Duties
• Attend Company events and functions outside of normal working hours
• Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time
• Ability to type on keyboard and use the computer for extended periods of time
• Ability to talk, hear, stand, sit, walk, reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds

Other Requirements
• Basic level English – read/write/speak/listen
• Basic level Japanese preferred – read/write/speak/listen
• Maintain a positive attitude
• Ability to work independently and as a team
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or 2 years of relevant experience required

Knowledge and Skills
• Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, currency, etc.
• Problem-solving skills
• Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional organization and time management skills
• Experience with bank reconciliation and tracking credit card transactions
• AS400 system experience preferred
